The Elkins Legacy Society

The Elkins Legacy Society recognizes individuals who make one of the deepest, most personal commitments to Abington Health Foundation through planned gifts. When including a charitable interest to the hospital in an estate plan, it means including Abington Health Foundation among those people and places you value most. Bequests, charitable trusts, naming AMHF as beneficiary of an IRA, charitable gift annuities and pooled income fund contributions are among the many gift vehicles that qualify as planned gifts.

Once you complete your estate plans, please fill out our member profile form to let us know. We would like to thank you for your generosity by including you in The Elkins Legacy Society.

The First Planned Gifts

On November 12, 1912, George W. Elkins, Sr. donated land on Old York Road in Abington to build Abington General Hospital. In February 1913, shortly after Stella McIntire Elkins passed away, Mr. Elkins contributed $100,000 in memory of his wife to build the first hospital building. The hospital was renamed Abington Memorial Hospital in her honor. Mr. Elkins later provided a generous bequest in his will, as one of his many planned gifts to the hospital. The tradition that Mr. Elkins established is honored through The Elkins Legacy Society.
