A Message from Patricia Doyle, Executive Director
Dear Kendal on Hudson Friends,
Welcome to our Guide to Planned Giving. It is only a starting point for what I hope will be a time for us to meet together and discuss your personal interests in supporting Kendal on Hudson. Your gift can make a difference.
Our Kendal on Hudson community has been shaped since its very beginning by caring and generous individuals who have made unique contributions of time, talent and treasure. The first charitable contributions were made in 2001, four years before our opening, to begin to lay a foundation of funds to support resident assistance, staff education and development, and service projects in the wider community. Our first major gift was made at our Ground Breaking Celebration in 2003, when we gave $10,000 to the Foundation for the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns to bear witness to our commitment to be good citizens in our community. The Board’s Philanthropic Committee, which includes resident members, was formed in 2004 and has guided our philanthropic work ever since. In the ensuing years we have provided several dozen staff members with tuition reimbursement, funded important projects in the areas of wellness and health care on our campus that would not otherwise have been possible, addressed staff emergencies of many kinds, and reached out to our community through our annual Health Fair and by grants to organizations who share our goal of together, transforming the experience of aging.
As we continue to advance our values-based commitment to philanthropy, this website plays an important role as a resource to residents, their families and our community supporters. Here you will find simple explanations of gifts that can provide you and your loved ones with income, such as charitable gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts. You will have an opportunity to learn more about the substantial tax savings you can realize as you pass family assets, such as a summer home, to the next generation through the structure of a charitable lead trust. You will be able to compare the benefits and drawbacks of funding your gifts to family members or organizations with retirement plans, life insurance policies, real estate, appreciated stock or other assets. Finally, for those who wish to remember Kendal on Hudson in your will, we have information for you and your legal advisor.
We share this information as part of our commitment to provide our residents and friends with the information they and their advisors will find useful as they discuss these important decisions.
Please know that we consider these pages just a starting point for dialogue. Please contact me directly so that I may, in confidence, assist you and those who advise you in these important matters.
And please take a moment to read about some of our wonderful donors and about their motivations and very personal approaches to supporting Kendal on Hudson.
With my warmest regards and thanks,
