Discover the Benefits of Giving Wisely

A Message from Rich Lysle and Phil DeBaun, Executive Directors of Kendal-Crosslands Communities

Welcome to the Kendal-Crosslands Communities’ Guide to Planned Giving.

Charitable giving has been an integral part of the life of the Kendal-Crosslands Communities from our beginnings when Kendal at Longwood was founded nearly 40 years ago. Kendal’s start was supported originally by the generosity of a Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Friend who left her estate to benefit the aging. A portion of her bequest was given to the founders of Kendal at Longwood to begin the process of acquiring the land and designing the new retirement community that would become the first of the four communities that now comprise Kendal-Crosslands Communities.

The generosity of numerous others since our beginning has ensured the success and viability of our communities and has enabled us to do more than would be possible if we relied on resident fees alone. Gifts from our residents have made it possible to establish resident financial assistance funds such as the Kendal and Crosslands Reserve Funds as well as a variety of staff education and training programs. Gifts have helped cover the cost of adding special amenities or improvements on our campuses. And gifts have been made to support outreach programs such as Helping Hands, which provides housekeeping services to lower income seniors in our area. Whether you specify a bequest in your will, arrange a life income gift such as a charitable gift annuity, or make a major outright gift in your lifetime, your gift makes a difference and benefits our communities for many years into the future.

We are pleased to make this new Planned Giving resource available to our residents, their families and advisors, and our community supporters. Here you will find explanations of gifts that can provide lifetime income, such as a charitable gift annuity or a charitable remainder trust. You will learn more about the tax savings you can realize on a variety of gift vehicles. You will find information about giving through a retirement plan or life insurance policy, real estate, or appreciated stock. If you wish to remember Kendal-Crosslands Communities in your will, we have information for you and your advisors.

Our communities would not be the same today if it weren’t for the generous planned gifts made in the past. We invite you to explore this Planned Giving Guide and contact us if you would like to discuss a potential gift to support Kendal-Crosslands Communities. We would be pleased to talk with you about your interests. All conversations will be strictly confidential, and you will be under no obligation to proceed unless you decide the gift is right for you.

Regards,

Rich Lysle and Phil DeBaun
