“It is my profound hope that the Board of Trustees will consider this bequest an endowment…an anchor to secure the college against the perils of a changing economy.”
- From the will of Harold Johnson, Hampshire College founding benefactor
Hampshire College was born in 1965 from the generosity of visionary donors starting with Harold Johnson, and has been nurtured through the early decades by many others. Students today have the choice of a Hampshire education thanks to the generosity of those who came before them. The next generation will have that choice thanks to commitments of support made today, especially those made by thoughtful estate planning.
The Board of Trustees established the Harold Johnson Society to recognize individuals who include Hampshire in their will, or name Hampshire as a beneficiary of another planned gift such as a trust or an insurance policy. If you have made such a gift, please let us know by filling out our member profile form.
Membership involves no dues, obligations, or solicitations, but it does allow us to thank you and recognize you for the plans you have made, and it may inspire generosity in others.
Harold Johnson Society members receive news, reports, and special invitations to events. The most important benefit, however, is the satisfaction of knowing that as part of your legacy, you have helped secure the option of a truly self-directed education, unlike any other, for tomorrow’s world.
On behalf of the next generations of Hampshire students, the college extends sincere thanks to each and every member of the Harold Johnson Society for their generosity and commitment to a strong and vibrant future for Hampshire College. A listing of all members known as of January 1, 2011 is here.
