Mrs. Jacquelyn D. Guthrie

name

Jacquelyn Draughn Guthrie is a retired businesswoman who currently resides in Springfield, TN. She inherited Draughn Brothers Company, LLP, from her father and uncle, who founded the business in 1921. She retired as president of the company on May 1, 2016, passing the mantle for the day-to-day management of the company to her two children, Jennifer Warner and Edison Guthrie.

She attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, for two years, and earned her undergraduate liberal arts degree from University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1957.

Although now retired, she continues her involvement in many community and civic organizations. She was awarded the Order of the Red Triangle, the highest honor awarded to extraordinary volunteers by the YMCA of Middle Tennessee; she is a member of the Robertson County Chamber of Commerce and the Springfield Kiwanis; she serves on the NorthCrest Foundation, which provides financial support for the NorthCrest Medical Center; she has been a long-time member of the board of directors of Martin Methodist College located in Pulaski, TN; and she serves on the Five Rivers Conservation, Resource, and Development Council. Mrs. Guthrie also served on the building committee for the recently erected $5 million-dollar Stokes Brown Public Library.

Two of Mrs. Guthrie’s many hobbies are traveling and learning about other cultures. However, her passion is helping to meet the needs of others in all walks of life and circumstance. Although she had heard of Africa University, she never felt compelled to become involved until she heard Rev. F. Lloyd Rollins preach at her church, First United Methodist Church, Springfield, on September 13, 2015. His inspiring message of how God is acting through Africa University to transform lives and a continent inspired her to establish a named endowed scholarship to help further the education of the young people of Africa.

Mrs. Guthrie is the proud grandparent of three grandchildren: Emily, Jack, and Daria.
