Meet Our Donors
Mr. Kevin G. Goodwin and Mrs. Karen Olsen Goodwin
Karen and Kevin met at 9:00 o'clock p. m. on July 4, 1974. After a brief courtship, they married in September 1988. Within months of their marriage, they joined Hockessin United Methodist Church (Delaware), where they have been members ever since. In addition to their involvement with their local church, Kevin is a member of the Africa University Advisory Development Committee and the Planned Giving Council, and he is a member of the General Board of Pensions and Health Benefits. He was recently elected as a delegate to his fifth General Conference. Karen generally accompanies Kevin to most of the Africa University meetings and has attended General Conference with him since 2000.
Both have been involved with fund raising for Africa University since 1997 when they successfully shepherded a resolution through the Peninsula-Delaware Annual Conference to endow a scholarship at Africa University. Since then, they successfully petitioned the Annual Conference to endow a second scholarship; they spear-headed a successful matching gift campaign and raised $20,000.00 for the Honorary Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship Fund; they have embarked upon another matching campaign to raise $50,000 for the Peninsula-Delaware Endowed Scholarship Fund; and Kevin's AU tee-shirt was instrumental in securing an endowment gift of $200,000 designated for scholarships for the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Kevin and Karen are charter members of the Legacy Society, having been inducted in 2001. They are being recognized for their third planned gift to Africa University.
