$2 million Donald T. Leahy Trust Endowment Challenge
The Donald T. Leahy Charitable Lead Trust has directed a $2 million challenge grant for an endowment dedicated to supporting the education programs of the California Science Center. The significance of the Leahy Endowment Fund Challenge is that it will match dollar-for-dollar all contributions toward this endowment up to $2 million, including planned gifts.
The Science Center’s endowment fulfills an important role in ensuring the vitality and sustainability of the Science Center’s hands-on science education programs and teacher professional development workshops, and helps them grow to meet the ever-increasing need for quality science learning and education experiences.
This challenge grant is an opportunity to double your donation’s impact on Science Center education programs, which depend on your support.
As of January 2010, $1.3 million has been raised through the match. The remaining balance of $700,000 must be matched by December 31, 2010. To participate in the Leahy Endowment Fund Challenge, all a donor needs to do is:
- make an outright contribution to the education endowment today.
and / or
- notify us that he/she has left the California Science Center Foundation in their estate plans;
- give an estimated amount of the gift;
- designate the gift will go toward the education endowment.
Every day, parents, children, teachers and community educators benefit from the educational programs at the Science Center. With your help, these programs will continue to foster a generation of learners who embrace science as a means to enrich their lives.
