A Message from Rebecca Smith, Executive Director

Welcome to Kendal at Hanover's Guide to Planned Giving

Kendal at Hanover has long been a community comprised of people who want to make a difference – a community whose members have dedicated their time and their talents as volunteers and supporters. Most have spent their lives in service, as educators, as leaders in community as well as corporate life, as parents who have instilled in the next generation priorities that speak to making the world a better place. This commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of others didn’t start with Kendal at Hanover. It is a shared value, important in the choices made by those who have now chosen to spend their lives at Kendal at Hanover.

I would like to welcome you to the Kendal at Hanover website on Planned Giving. We are pleased to make this resource available to our residents, their families and our community supporters. Here you will find simple explanations of gifts that can provide you and your loved ones with income, such as charitable gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts. You will have an opportunity to learn more about the substantial tax savings you can realize as you pass family assets, such as a summer home, to the next generation through the structure of a charitable lead trust. You will be able to compare the benefits and drawbacks of funding your gifts to family members or organizations with retirement plans, life insurance policies, real estate, appreciated stock or other assets. Finally, for those of you who may wish to remember Kendal at Hanover in your will, we have information for you and your legal advisor.

We share this information as part of our commitment to providing our residents with the information they and their advisors will find useful as they discuss these important decisions. In the words of John Diffey, The Kendal Corporation’s President and CEO, “…we affirmed our commitment to foster a culture of generosity, encouraging and developing full use of time, talent, and resources. Giving is, at heart, a matter of values. It reflects the intersection of your personal values and those of the Kendal community.”

Please know that we consider these pages to be the starting point for dialogue. I encourage you to contact Brent Edgerton, Associate Executive Director/CFO, directly so that he may, in confidence, assist you and those who advise you in these important decisions.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Smith
Executive Director
